Assoc.Prof.Dr.Patcharin Worathanakul

Associate Professor

King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok

Patcharin Worathanakul is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand. She received her doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from Kasetsart University, Thailand. During her doctoral studies, she was awarded a scholarship to conduct research as a Visiting Research Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, under the Royal Golden Jubilee Ph.D. Program, in collaboration with the Doctoral Cooperation Project of the Commission on Higher Education. She also received partial research funding from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MO DNR), USA. She received a full scholarship for her master’s degree through the Chemical Engineering Practice School (ChEPS) Program at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Kasetsart University. Dr. Worathanakul has extensive experience as a Project Manager and Research Associate at the Thailand Environment Institute, with expertise in Cleaner Technology, Eco-design, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and other environmental assessment tools. She has participated in international training programs on industrial and environmental protection in Thailand, Life Cycle Assessment supported by the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Program on Life Cycle Assessment and Eco-design in Japan. She has also participated in Water Footprint training organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She had served on the Advisory Committee for expanding carbon offset activities to support the voluntary carbon market in Thailand, as well as on the Technical Committee on Carbon Footprint for Products and Services. She is also a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Thai Society for Biotechnology, and the Thai Institute of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. Dr. Worathanakul is currently a researcher at the Center for Eco-materials and Cleaner Technology at KMUTNB. She is a Senior Member of the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT). Her research and educational interests include biomass utilization, environmental nanotechnology, materials processing for medical applications, carbon dioxide reduction, environmentally benign processing, and energy and environmental applications. She has served as a chairperson and committee member for various international conferences and has authored numerous research publications and books, as well as holding several petty patents. She has also contributed to working groups focused on driving KMUTNB toward carbon neutrality and advancing sustainable university initiatives in Thailand. Currently, she serves on the committee of the Asia-Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production (APRSCP) Foundation and the Thai SCP Association (Thailand). She is also an Executive Committee Member of the Hub of Knowledge for Low Carbon Materials.
